Ganghwagung is a takeout dakgangjeong shop at 7 Cheonghadong-gil, Ganghwa-eup. We brine our chicken ourselves and add ginseng powder to the batter. Candied sweet potato made from Ganghwa golden sweet potatoes is tossed in with the chicken. We sell only 50 chickens a day, so we may close early when we sell out.
Our grandmother, who lived on Ganghwa Island, always fried candied sweet potatoes and tossed them in when she made dakgangjeong. Her daughter and granddaughter, who still remember that taste, now run this shop with her recipe. We named it 'Ganghwagung' (Ganghwa Palace) as if building a little palace for our gentle, graceful grandmother.
